The Home Secretary has initiated an urgent review following two recent uncontrolled landings of migrant boats on Kent beaches. This marks the first instance of such landings since September 2025, with 21 individuals detained after arriving at Samphire Hoe and five others near Folkestone. The Home Office has not disclosed if further searches are underway.
Typically, migrants crossing the Channel are escorted to shore by Border Security Command or RNLI boats. The recent arrivals raise concerns about the effectiveness of current surveillance measures, as officials had previously indicated that uncontrolled landings were becoming less frequent due to improved resources.
