A report from the Commons Defence Committee highlights significant deficiencies in the UK's Arctic defence, particularly a shortage of Royal Navy warships and submarines. This inadequacy leaves critical infrastructure, such as undersea cables and energy supplies, vulnerable to potential Russian aggression.
The report warns that in a conflict scenario, Russia could threaten the UK's population and vital supply routes. The Ministry of Defence acknowledges the risks posed by Russia and is reportedly investing in measures to enhance protection, but officials stress that immediate action is necessary to address these gaps.
