The UK government is considering new residency requirements for political donors, aiming to ensure that significant contributions come from individuals residing in the UK. This follows substantial donations totaling £72 million to Reform UK from two British crypto-billionaires, Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne, who have recently lived abroad.
Reform leader Nigel Farage stated that the donations comply with current laws, but the proposed changes could affect future contributions. The government is also looking to introduce a £100,000 cap on donations from British voters living overseas, alongside a minimum residency period of 12 months for those returning to the UK.
