Three years after the illegal felling of the Sycamore Gap tree, its stump is exhibiting positive signs of recovery with a thick ring of new shoots. The National Trust has fenced off the area to protect the stump and is monitoring its progress closely, implementing measures to reduce soil compaction and limit disturbances.
In addition to the stump's recovery efforts, seedlings from the tree have been preserved and distributed to community groups, highlighting the importance of nature and raising awareness about the illegal act. The tree, a significant landmark, was felled in 2023 by two individuals who were later convicted and sentenced.
