Recent missile attack warnings from Yemen's Houthi rebels have disrupted Saudi Arabia's sporting events, including a delayed Asian Champions League match featuring Cristiano Ronaldo. This incident follows a deadly Houthi strike on Riyadh's airport, raising concerns about the safety of upcoming events, including the Asian Cup scheduled for early next year.
The kingdom's ambitious sports initiatives are facing significant setbacks, with multiple events postponed or canceled, including the LIV Golf series and the Saudi International. As geopolitical tensions rise, Saudi Arabia's efforts to diversify its economy through sports may be hindered, impacting its long-term vision for global sporting prominence.
