Satlyt, co-founded by former Google and SpaceX product manager Rama Afullo, has raised $8 million in seed funding to develop software for satellites that enables shared computing tasks in space. The company aims to improve operational efficiencies by allowing AI to process data onboard, reducing reliance on ground control and costly downlink transmissions.
The software is set to launch on a SpaceX rocket, marking a significant step for Satlyt as it collaborates with NASA and other companies to test cloud computing protocols and image processing in orbit. Afullo envisions a future where 20% of satellites utilize their technology by the decade's end.
