Rachel Jupp has been named the new director of BBC News, succeeding Deborah Turness, who resigned last year following controversy over a Panorama episode. Jupp, previously deputy editor of Newsnight and editor of Panorama, will oversee approximately 4,500 staff as the BBC implements significant job cuts to address financial pressures.
The BBC plans to reduce its workforce by up to 2,000 positions, aiming to save £500 million over two years. Jupp's leadership comes at a critical time as the organization navigates challenges related to audience trust and competition in the news landscape.
