A man who was being pursued by police in Stanstead Abbots has been found dead in the River Lea. Authorities reported that the man was wanted in connection with two robbery offences and entered the water after officers lost sight of him during the chase. Emergency services were alerted on September 14, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hertfordshire Constabulary has referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which is now investigating. The IOPC confirmed that the investigation is in its early stages and that the man's family will be kept informed.
