The vessel was transporting cotton and scrap iron when it ran aground, and remnants have been surfacing intermittently due to coastal erosion. The Egan Maritime Institute plans to send staff to examine the site further, while state archaeologists have previously identified other pieces of the Warren Sawyer along the beach. The area is known for its shipwrecks, with over 750 recorded incidents in the 19th century, highlighting the historical significance of maritime navigation challenges in that era.
