Health officials are calling for increased participation in bowel cancer screening among individuals in their 50s, as only slightly more than half of 54-year-olds completed the at-home test last year. In contrast, 74% of those aged 70 to 74 engaged in the screening process, highlighting a significant gap in early detection efforts.
The faecal immunochemical test (Fit) kits are mailed to those aged 50 to 74 every two years, with the aim of identifying cancers early. Early detection can lead to better outcomes, as evidenced by a recent case where a woman diagnosed with bowel cancer had no symptoms prior to testing.
