Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has called for $20 million in climate compensation following severe floods that resulted in over 1,300 confirmed deaths and more than 5,500 missing. The floods, attributed to climate change and triggered by a glacier collapse, have been described as unprecedented in scale, comparable to the 2015 earthquake's devastation.
Khanal emphasized the need for major polluting nations to acknowledge their responsibility in addressing climate-related disasters. He noted that the requested funds are insufficient compared to the estimated $5 billion in damages, highlighting the urgent need for a robust global response to climate impacts on vulnerable nations like Nepal.
