Over 200 musicians, including Massive Attack and Brian Eno, have signed a letter to Andy Burnham, urging him to reject new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea, specifically targeting the Rosebank and Jackdaw fields. The artists argue that these projects will not enhance energy security or lower bills, as much of the oil is expected to be exported.
Environmental activists warn that exploiting these fields could significantly increase carbon emissions, with estimates suggesting Rosebank alone could produce over 250 million tonnes of CO2, exacerbating climate change impacts already evident in the UK this summer.
