Microsoft is set to end support for its Copilot AI assistant on all smart TVs, including those from LG and Samsung, by 2026. This decision follows a notification on LG TVs indicating that the feature will soon be unavailable. The Copilot functionality allowed users to interact with the AI for recommendations and information about content on screen.
The discontinuation comes after Microsoft shifted its focus for Copilot towards business and productivity applications, moving away from its role as a digital companion on consumer devices. Users had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the integration of Copilot features in their TVs without consent.
With Copilot's discontinuation on smart TVs, users should explore alternative AI solutions for content recommendations. Keep an eye on how LG and Samsung adapt their smart TV interfaces and whether they introduce new features to fill the void left by Copilot.
