Microsoft has announced the development of an AI tool that reportedly diagnoses medical conditions with up to four times the accuracy of human doctors. The findings, published in the journal Science, indicate that the AI system achieved around 83% accuracy in diagnostic tests compared to 36% for generalist physicians. The tool, named Diagnostic Orchestrator, utilizes multiple AI agents to analyze symptoms and medical histories, mimicking the diagnostic process used by healthcare professionals.
While the AI has shown promising results in controlled tests, Microsoft acknowledges the need for clinical validation before widespread deployment.
