South Africans are participating in local elections, with over 500 parties competing. The African National Congress (ANC) faces significant challenges, as public dissatisfaction with service delivery and governance has been rising, particularly in areas like Alexandra and Soweto. Many residents express frustration over issues such as corruption, unemployment, and poor infrastructure.
The ANC's declining support is evident, having dropped from 70% in 2004 to around 40% in recent elections. Analysts predict further losses for the party, making these elections a critical test of its governance capabilities and public trust.
