Japanese startup Letara has raised approximately $16 million to broaden its hybrid rocket technology beyond small satellite thrusters into larger systems for space, defense, and security applications. The funding will support the transition from academic research to commercial viability, as Letara aims to capitalize on the growing global demand for hybrid propulsion systems.
The company, which emerged from Hokkaido University, plans to target satellite manufacturers, launch companies, and government contracts. Letara's innovative approach uses inexpensive materials for solid fuel, potentially positioning it competitively in a rapidly evolving market projected to reach $2.6 billion by 2032.
