Bayo Alaba, a Labour MP, has been suspended from the party following allegations regarding his handling of government Covid loans. He has referred himself for an internal investigation, which does not currently indicate any wrongdoing. Alaba will now serve as an independent MP while the inquiry is conducted.
The investigation stems from reports suggesting Alaba attempted to wind up his business, Alaba Properties, while having taken out two taxpayer-funded bounce back loans. He has stated his commitment to repaying the loans in full and has expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.
