Jeffrey Donaldson, the former leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, is set to be sentenced for multiple counts of child sex abuse, including rape, on Thursday. He was convicted of 18 charges related to offenses against two women during their childhoods and has been held in custody since his conviction in June.
In addition to Donaldson's case, his wife faced a trial regarding her involvement in his offenses, with a jury finding her guilty on multiple counts. Following the convictions, both the DUP and the Ulster Unionist Party initiated independent reviews into the circumstances surrounding Donaldson's conduct during his political career.
