An inquest has revealed that an e-bike battery involved in a fire that killed a mother and her two children had prior issues. The fire, attributed to the charging e-bike, led to the death of Gemma Germeney and her children, Oliver and Lilly. The father, Scott Peden, had replaced the stolen battery and sought repairs, but the battery was deemed too powerful for the fuse, leading to temporary fixes.
Testimony from the repairman indicated that he had advised Peden about the need for a new battery, but no risks were communicated. The Office for Product Safety and Standards is considering potential criminal proceedings.
