Tensions are escalating between headteachers in England and Ofsted as school leadership unions express a lack of confidence in the inspection body. The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) has indicated that it may initiate strike ballots unless significant wellbeing concerns stemming from Ofsted's inspection regime are addressed. A recent survey revealed that 88% of schools reported negative impacts on staff wellbeing due to inspections.
The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) is also contemplating similar actions. Calls for reform have intensified following the tragic death of a headteacher linked to inspection pressures, prompting discussions about the need for a review of the current inspection framework, which many believe has exacerbated stress rather than alleviating it.
