At the Conservative Political Action Conference in Brisbane, Pauline Hanson appeared to overshadow Angus Taylor, who leads the Liberal Party. While Taylor attempted to assert his position, the audience's reception indicated a preference for Hanson, who has been acting as a de facto opposition leader. Her speech received significant applause, contrasting with Taylor's mixed reception, highlighting a potential shift in conservative leadership dynamics.
Hanson's comments on cooperation between One Nation and the Liberals suggest a strategic decision point for Taylor. The conference showcased the challenges he faces in appealing to a more conservative base, as he navigates the complexities of uniting right-wing factions while addressing criticisms of past Liberal policies.
Hanson's rising influence at CPAC signals a potential realignment in conservative politics. Readers should monitor Taylor's next moves, particularly his strategy for engaging with Hanson and the conservative base, as failure to adapt could further diminish his leadership role.
