Google has introduced an upgraded AI weather model, WeatherNext 3, which aims to enhance the accuracy of rain and snowfall predictions. This model utilizes real-time satellite data, allowing for forecasts that are five times sharper than previous versions and generated hourly based on the latest observations.
The new model is particularly beneficial for regions with limited ground-based weather data, improving precipitation forecasts by up to 50% for predictions made at least a day in advance. Additionally, WeatherNext 3 is designed to support renewable energy forecasting by predicting wind speeds at turbine heights.
