A French court has recognized cosmic radiation as a contributing factor to the breast cancer of former Air France flight attendant Sophie Lainault. This ruling marks the first acknowledgment of such a link for aircrew, alongside risks from passive smoking and night work. Lainault, now in remission, can retire early with her treatment costs covered by the health system.
The decision may pave the way for similar claims from other flight attendants, as studies indicate higher cancer rates among aviation professionals due to radiation exposure, particularly on long-haul flights.
