Kaynak: BBC UK - Yayin: 04 Oct 2026 16:18

Archaeologists from Time Team have uncovered walls believed to belong to one of medieval England's largest leprosy hospitals in Lincoln. The excavation, part of a three-year project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, began with a three-day dig on the South Common, revealing structures that housed individuals with leprosy from the late 11th to early 12th centuries.

The project aims to explore the history of the Hospital of the Holy Innocents, which operated for approximately five centuries. Local residents will have opportunities to participate in future archaeological activities as the project progresses.

As the excavation progresses, community engagement will be key. Residents can participate in upcoming digs, fostering a deeper connection to local history. Watch for findings that may reshape our understanding of medieval healthcare and societal attitudes towards leprosy.
