John Burford, a former Nasa scientist, has been ordered to repay £655,951.40 to investors he defrauded out of over £1 million. Burford, who operated an unauthorized investment scheme, was sentenced to two years in prison in 2025 after pleading guilty to multiple offenses. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has stated that nearly 99% of the funds lost by approximately 70 victims will be returned through this confiscation order.
Burford misled investors about fund performance and used their money for personal expenses, including purchasing a house. The FCA's recovery efforts highlight the importance of accountability in financial fraud cases and aim to restore trust among investors in the financial market.
