Greater Manchester Police have arrested eight men shortly after their release from prison under a government scheme aimed at reducing overcrowding. These individuals were among approximately 50 released from the region as part of a broader initiative that saw around 700 prisoners freed nationwide on October 1st.
The Ministry of Justice has stated that the early release program is necessary due to the prison system operating at over 98% capacity. They emphasize that public safety remains a priority, with increased police presence and funding to manage potential risks associated with the early releases.
