Russell Brand has been convicted of rape and sexual assault following a trial at Southwark Crown Court. The jury found him guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault, while he was acquitted of two counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault. The investigation, which began after allegations surfaced in September 2023, has seen over 340 witness statements collected by the Metropolitan Police.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who led the investigation, expressed hope that the verdicts would encourage other potential victims to come forward. He noted the challenges faced during the investigation, particularly due to the non-recent nature of the allegations, which date back as far as 27 years, complicating the collection of evidence.
