While football celebrates its top players with the Ballon d'Or, cricket lacks a similar global recognition for its best player. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has awards, but they do not generate the same excitement or visibility as football's annual ceremony. Current awards like the Leading Cricketer in the World exist but lack the fanfare associated with football's accolades.
The ICC is considering refining its awards to create a more significant global event. This reflects a recognition that the existing model has not captured the attention of cricket fans, highlighting an opportunity for cricket to enhance its profile on the world stage.
