A newly completed wildlife overpass in Colorado has significantly decreased wildlife-vehicle collisions by 91% within just 10 months of operation. The structure connects 39,000 acres of habitat and has been utilized by various species, including elk and pronghorn, enhancing their safety while crossing a busy interstate.
The overpass, which spans six lanes of traffic, was built for $15 million, funded by federal and state contributions. This successful project highlights the effectiveness of wildlife crossings, prompting plans for additional structures across Colorado to further protect wildlife and reduce accidents.
