Amanda Blanc, CEO of Aviva, has raised concerns that homes currently being constructed in flood-risk areas could face insurability issues in the future. She noted that if building trends continue, approximately 115,000 homes may be built in such zones over the next decade. Research indicates that nearly a third of new homes in 2024 could be at risk of flooding by 2050.
Blanc emphasized the increasing frequency of severe weather events, with the Met Office suggesting that wet winters have shifted from once every 80 years to once every 20 years. She also urged the government to be cautious with potential pension policy changes ahead of the upcoming budget.
