Apple is implementing new App Store guidelines that mandate an 18+ rating for dating apps and AI companions featuring sexual or romantic content. This change aims to enhance protections for minors and will take effect on November 16, requiring developers to update their content descriptors accordingly.
The policy also addresses privacy concerns by requiring apps to disclose if they share users' real-world locations. This move reflects Apple's ongoing commitment to child safety and could significantly impact the landscape of AI companion applications, which have gained popularity among younger audiences.
Developers should prepare for the November 16 deadline by reviewing their apps' content descriptors. Watch for potential shifts in user demographics as younger audiences may seek alternatives to AI companions and dating apps that comply with the new guidelines.
