Mary Peltola is campaigning to become the first Democrat to win Alaska's Senate seat in nearly 20 years, focusing on the state's severe cost-of-living crisis. She has visited remote areas where basic goods are exorbitantly priced and energy costs have surged due to reliance on generators and rising diesel prices linked to geopolitical tensions.
The race against incumbent Republican Dan Sullivan is intensifying, with both candidates emphasizing their plans to address economic challenges and support Alaska's vital industries. Peltola's campaign highlights the impact of federal policies on local costs, while Sullivan defends his record and warns against Democratic policies that he claims threaten jobs in the oil and gas sector.
