The UK's Information Commissioner's Office has executed search warrants at multiple locations linked to claims management companies sending spam texts about car finance mis-selling. This follows over 12 million complaints from the public regarding nuisance marketing messages related to a £7.5 billion compensation scheme announced by the Financial Conduct Authority for victims of the scandal.
The crackdown aims to address the surge in misleading advertisements and poor practices within the claims management sector. The ICO, in collaboration with other regulatory bodies, is investigating companies believed to have sent around 170 million unsolicited texts, emphasizing compliance with legal standards in the industry.
