Two pilot whales have died following a mass stranding incident off the Northumberland coast. A group of approximately 40 whales was spotted behaving distressed near Amble, prompting rescue efforts by British Divers Marine Life Rescue. Despite attempts to herd the whales back to sea, the animals remained close to shore, leading to the unfortunate deaths of two individuals.
Rescue teams reported that six stranded whales were found on Coquet Island, with limited access and challenging tides preventing successful refloating efforts. The situation remains critical, with ongoing support from local organizations to care for any surviving whales.
