Govia Thameslink Railway has announced plans to upgrade over 60,000 seats on all 115 Thameslink trains, replacing the unpopular 'ironing board' seats. The upgrades will include new cushions and backrests, with work expected to start in 2027 and last for two years.
These improvements are part of a broader strategy following GTR's transition to public ownership in May 2026, which also includes increased Gatwick Express services and refurbishing train facilities.
