Taika Waititi's planned Star Wars film has been officially put on hold, joining a list of other projects that have failed to materialize. Since the release of The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, only one Star Wars film has reached theaters, raising concerns about Lucasfilm's commitment to expanding the franchise. Despite numerous announcements for new projects, many have not progressed beyond the planning stages.
The rising costs of filmmaking and mixed box office performances may contribute to Lucasfilm's hesitance to greenlight new entries in the Star Wars saga. As the studio continues to announce potential projects, the industry is watching closely to see if any will ultimately come to fruition, especially given the franchise's storied history and fan expectations.
