Scotland's public spending deficit has decreased by £600 million to £25.3 billion, driven by an increase in tax revenues, according to the latest Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (Gers) report. Total public spending reached £123.6 billion, with health expenditures rising significantly, now accounting for 17% of the total budget.
The report highlights that spending per person in Scotland is £22,281, which is notably higher than the UK average. While North Sea oil and gas revenues have declined for the third year in a row, officials emphasized the importance of tax policy in supporting public services and addressing cost-of-living challenges.
