Satlyt, co-founded by former Google and SpaceX product manager Rama Afullo, has raised $8 million in seed funding to create software that enables satellites to perform complex computing tasks in space. The company aims to enhance operational efficiencies by allowing AI to make decisions onboard, reducing reliance on ground control and minimizing costly data transmissions back to Earth.
The software is set to launch on a SpaceX rocket alongside Google's Project Suncatcher prototype. Satlyt's approach focuses on building a shared computing system across satellites, positioning itself as a third-party provider in an evolving market where more advanced processors are expected to be integrated into spacecraft in the coming years.
