A 74-year-old man, Walter Moorhead, has been arrested on manslaughter charges after allegedly shooting Santos Maria Chilel Soto, mistaking her for a deer. The incident occurred while Soto was walking with her partner and children in a cornfield. Authorities stated that hunting deer with a rifle was not in season at the time of the shooting.
Soto's partner, Minivaldo Velásquez, criticized the shooting as senseless and called it a cold-blooded murder. Family members have raised concerns about the need for responsible hunting practices and suggested potential racial motivations behind the incident.
