Three hikers were rescued from Mount Shasta in California after relying on Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, for their expedition planning. The group set out early in the morning and reached the summit late in the evening, leading to a challenging descent in the dark. They spent the night in Mud Creek Canyon before being rescued the following morning.
The Siskiyou County sheriff’s office noted that the hikers were advised by Gemini to bring insufficient supplies, which contributed to their difficulties. Authorities emphasized the importance of consulting local ranger stations for accurate trip information rather than solely depending on AI tools.
