A High Court judge has determined that several major car manufacturers did not use devices to cheat emissions testing, rejecting claims from around 1.6 million motorists. The court found that the strategies employed by these manufacturers did not constitute prohibited defeat devices, although some allegations were acknowledged as potentially valid under a different interpretation of the law.
Mercedes has expressed disagreement with the ruling regarding one of its vehicles and is considering an appeal. A follow-up trial is set for October to address potential breaches and damages.
