The Google Fitbit Edge, priced at $180, is a notable upgrade for existing Fitbit users, offering enhanced health tracking features and a larger display compared to older models. However, the absence of NFC technology for contactless payments raises questions about its competitiveness in the smartwatch market.
While the Edge provides improved metrics and a modular design for easier repairs, it may not attract new users who find the screenless Fitbit Air more appealing. The Edge's reliance on a subscription for advanced features may also limit its overall value.
Watch for user feedback on the Edge's modular design and battery replacement features, especially as EU regulations take effect. The subscription model's impact on user experience will also be crucial, as many may weigh the cost against the benefits of advanced health metrics.
