This initiative comes in the wake of recent tragedies, including the deaths of two women at an Essex beach, and aims to provide water safety education to children and raise awareness about the dangers of open water swimming.
The strategy also includes plans for media campaigns to educate bystanders on how to respond to drowning situations and will consider the impact of climate change on water safety. Similar initiatives are being rolled out in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland this week.
