Control of Great Britain's 39 million smart meters has transitioned from Smart DCC, a Capita subsidiary, to a newly established non-profit organization. This change follows a 13-year period marked by rising costs and operational delays, prompting a shift to a public-interest model governed by an independent board.
The new organization aims to improve the management of the smart meter network, which has faced significant challenges, including a substantial number of non-functional meters. The government hopes this transition will enhance the rollout and efficiency of smart meters across the country.
