Synthetic drugs are increasingly infiltrating the United States, raising concerns about a deepening drug crisis. In Chicago's South Side, communities are actively confronting this challenge as officials work to address the issue. Earlier this year, President Trump announced a crackdown on drug cartels, designating many as terrorist organizations.
Despite a decrease in drug overdose deaths from approximately 110,000 in 2022 to around 70,000 last year, the ongoing influx of synthetic drugs poses significant risks. The situation remains critical as local efforts continue to combat the growing threat.
