Atoco, a startup based in Irvine, California, has developed a machine that extracts water from air using metal organic frameworks (MOFs), which require no electricity. This innovative approach allows the device to operate in low humidity conditions, potentially addressing water scarcity in arid regions while utilizing waste heat from data centers.
The company aims to scale its technology to produce significant amounts of water, with prototypes generating up to 300 liters daily. Atoco is in discussions with major tech companies to implement pilot projects at data centers, aligning with industry goals to become water positive by 2030.
