Michael Zavros has won the Archibald Prize's people's choice award for his portrait of Alex Ryvchin, co-head of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry. The artwork, created shortly after the Bondi terror attack, reflects Zavros's respect for Ryvchin's leadership and features symbolic elements such as a tefillin. This year saw a record 45,769 votes cast in the people's choice category.

The overall Archibald Prize was awarded to Richard Lewer for his portrait of artist Iluwanti Ken. The exhibition is currently open at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and will tour regional areas in Victoria and New South Wales after August 16.
