Andy Burnham is being encouraged to adopt an economic populist strategy to address the cost of living crisis, as a recent poll indicates that such policies could help Labour maintain its majority in the next election. The poll suggests that radical measures, including rent control and higher wealth taxes, could significantly improve Labour's standing against Reform UK in key constituencies.
The survey, which involved around 10,000 voters, shows that if Burnham embraces these policies, Labour could secure 358 seats, a majority of 66. However, if the party continues on its current path, it risks winning fewer than 100 seats, potentially its lowest since 1918, highlighting the urgency for a shift in strategy.
